For the price, it's a prettying all inclusive experience. The common lounge can crowded at time I have no frame of reference for this experience. It is so unique. I think it's important to know King Spa is what I love about Chicago. You live here for a decade and then find out about King Spa and you think "how did I not know about this place? It's worth a visit -if just to experience being in another culture without leaving home.
There are a thousand nuanced ways to screw up and the staff is kind but you have to laugh at yourself. Why did I think the thousand low showers were for the handicapped? Of course they're for Koreans who must prefer to sit while showering. Koreans appear to be fanatical about their dental hygiene. Why am I naked? It goes on and on The facility is spotlessly clean, the staff speaks English and appears ready for the uninitiated, the Korean food was delicious.
My only gripe as a King Spa virgin was the King scrub. Apparently in Korean culture having a semiclad gentleman remove your skin using grit sandpaper I assume is pleasurable. Even the buckets of warm water could not rinse the tears welling in my eyes as I waiting for the commands -left side, right side- to come to an end.
What can I say, I'm a wimp. Do bring something to read. It's an easy place to waste a day among the warm sauna rooms. I've been to spas in China and Korea and was looking for something similar here. King Spa in the Chicagoland area fit the bill well. They follow the Korean style with maybe 10 different rooms of various temperatures from smoking hot to freezer with ice on the walls. Each room has a different theme - salt, amethyst, clay, charcoal, marble, ice, etc.
The segregated areas had pools and are nude. It is a little disconcerting, but cleaner that way and I enjoy those areas too. I didn't try the famous Korean body scrub. This was my first experience and I was convinced that it would be the firs of many. Need I say more and I don't live in the area or the state. I am planning weekend visits when in town and will start on Friday evening or Saturday with plans to go back the next day. So what makes this so special? After all of the stress associated with work, family, friends, and all that takes place each day, I cannot think of another activity that allows me to relax and totally unwind.
